Racing launches all-new Honda CBR1000RR at AMA/Prostar Norwalk
National
Stotz Racing debuted the all-new turbocharged Honda CBR1000RR
with great success at round five of the 2006 AMA/Prostar Drag
Racing National Championship, July 15-16, at Norwalk Raceway Park,
Ohio. The Honda Rider’s Club of America (HRCA) sponsored
liter-bike qualified fourth overall in the ultra-competitive Pro
Street class with a time of 7.75 seconds at 190 mph.
“I am very pleased with our first outing on the CBR1000RR,”
said team owner and four-time national champion Kent Stotz. “We
have worked hard to get to this point and, true to its nature,
Honda’s engineering is holding up very well to the demands
of our Velocity Racing Turbo System. In fact, we’re getting
about 440 horsepower with 30 pounds of boost and we are still
using the stock crankshaft, camshafts and valves.”
The CBR1000RR, one of Honda’s best-selling sport motorcycles
and the first liter bike to compete in the Pro Street class, is
completely different from the CBR1100XX on which Stotz won two
national titles and set class ET and top speed records as recently
as March, 2006 at the BikeWeek Nationals. “I give a lot
of credit to our sponsors, JE Pistons and Falicon Rods, who we
have worked with closely to develop reliable horsepower,”
said Stotz. “In addition, I want to thank Air Tech and BST
Wheels for providing us with the lightweight bodywork and wheels
we needed to help bring our weight down below 400 pounds.”
One of the keys to success against the 1300cc-plus competition,
according to Stotz, is a high power-to-weight ratio. With more
horsepower to come, expect the Stotz Racing CBR1000RR to set new
standards in the class.

Fresh off an appearance at the Honda Hoot in Knoxville, Tenn.,
Stotz was enthused about the potential of his new drag racing
project. “Honda is behind me 100 percent and so are the
fans. At the Hoot, we shared our display area with one of our
sponsors, Joe Rocket, and we had a record number of contestants
in our Reaction Time Challenge. Our Grand Prize, a helmet from
our sponsor Scorpion EXO, was a huge hit.”
