Stotz Racing report -
AMA/Prostar Elmer Trett Nationals; Team plans to run Honda’s
CBR1000RR in Richmond
The second round of the 2006 AMA/Prostar Drag Racing National
Championship rolled into Commerce, Ga., for the Elmer Trett Nationals,
April 1-2, and Stotz Racing looked to extend the dominance that
the team displayed in Pro Street competition at the BikeWeek Nationals
one month earlier. In that event, Kent Stotz reeled off an incredible
run of five consecutive 200 mph passes on his Honda Rider’s
Club of America (HRCA)-sponsored turbocharged CBR1100XX and the
four-time champion set and reset the record books five times.
In round one of eliminations on Sunday in Commerce, Stotz set
the quickest and fastest ET of the round, 7.662 seconds at 194.30
mph, but he was later disqualified due the incorrect placement
of weight on the fairing bracket. “It was a challenging
weekend for us,” Stotz said. “We had difficulty gaining
traction all weekend. We worked with our Hyper Pro Suspension,
set low ET of the first round and then the DQ took us out of the
competition. We’ve appealed the ruling because the rule
as it is written is unclear as to where it is legal to add the
weight.” Stotz expects AMA/Prostar to issue its decision
later this week.
Regardless of the outcome, Stotz is focusing on the next round
at Virginia Motorsports Park on May 6-7. “We’re not
looking back. We’ve got a championship to win for Honda
and that’s what we’re going to do.”
Drag racing fans will be pleased to know that Stotz will be competing
on the Honda CBR1000RR for the first time in the next round. “We’ve
been developing the new Honda all winter,” said Stotz. “Our
JE Pistons and Falicon rods are now in the RR motor with Star
Racing’s head and we plan to dyno the bike soon. The new
Super Street class ran a 32-bike ladder here at Commerce and I’m
confident that the CBR1000RR will do very well in Prostar’s
newest entry-level class for street riders. Of course, we plan
to run the RR in Pro Street as well.”
Stotz recognized the team’s newest sponsor, Scorpion Helmets.
“Scorpion has not only improved our game by not fogging
up at night in qualifying, they have also gotten behind our sport
by becoming a sponsor of AMA/Prostar drag racing and are now the
Official Helmet of AMA/Prostar.” Stotz Racing’s other
sponsors are Pro Honda Oils and Chemicals, Velocity Racing Turbo
Systems, Joe Rocket, Pingel Enterprises, RC Components, Air-Tech
Streamlining, BST Wheels and Schaumburg Honda.
